Acquiring an instrument from Organ Clearing House

Cornel Zimmer of Cornel Zimmer Organ Builders presents information on the process of acquiring and installing instruments from the Organ Clearing House. Learn about how it’s done, what’s required, the cost versus that of a new instrument, and accounts of churches that have had successful outcomes in this type of venture.


Robin Ericksen on Balancing Career and Family

The Organist and Choirmaster of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in LaGrange, Georgia is married to a physician, has two young children, and a large Facebook following where her delightful accounts of the family’s life are humorous and touching. Robin will share her journey as a professional church musician and a mom.


Reading Sessions with Alvin Blount

The Organist and Choirmaster of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Knoxville, will present reading sessions of hymn-based organ repertoire at St. Mary on the Hill Roman Catholic Church and spirituals at the Church of the Good Shepherd.


Kevin Simons, the St. James Music Press

The Director of the Sewanee Church Music Conference and President of the St. James Music Press, Kevin Simonds will present duplicate reading sessions of music from the archives of the St. James Music Press. Founded by Dr. Mark Schweizer this unique publishing house offers some of the most accessible church music available with permission to duplicate for members who pay an annual fee.


Dr. Mark Andersen

Chapter Scholarship Programs

Life member of the American Guild of Organists, concert recording artist, composer, Dean of the Central North Carolina Chapter, and North Carolina District Convener. Mark has lead several chapters in his career and is a great resource for forming a scholarship program and funding it for your chapter. He will discuss the best ways to start the scholarship program process and how to manage the funds necessary with pros and cons on the different methods of dealing with taxes, reporting, etc. Finally Dr. Andersen will discuss the best way to attract people to apply for your scholarships, the issues around dealing with young organists in competition, and how to deal with judging and awards.

As a former student of Marcel Dupré and Nadia Boulanger, Mark can also address issues with composing organ music and getting it published. He has over 200 titles published at present for sale on Sheet Music Direct and Sheet Music Plus. Dr. Andersen discusses the need, the method, and the copyright process involved.

Ken Courtney How to DIY a Hauptwerk Organ

Yes, you can! Putting together your own Hauptwerk Organ IS possible. Since Hauptwerk Organ Software is now very popular, this workshop will describe the journey of the Presenter into the world of Hauptwerk. Along with a description of this journey, the presentation will include photos of different stages of the build, as well as the actual instrument being available to see, hear and play. The workshop will explore different avenues to “build” your own Hauptwerk Organ and/or easily add it to an existing digital organ with MIDI connections. A handout with suggestions for getting started, including websites and resources, will be provided


Kathleen Cartledge on Streaming and Copyrights

The Dean of the host chapter, Deacon, Director of Music Ministries and Liturgist of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (ECLA) in Aiken, South Carolina, presents a session on the process of obtaining copyrights and permissions for churches who livestream worship services.


Sue Mitchell-Wallace, FAGO

Sue is currently convener of the Regional Councillors on the National AGO Council. She was a chapter dean in Fort Lauderdale and Atlanta. She was a District Convener for Georgia. She was a member of the Certification Committee and continues as an exam adjudicator. She was national Councillor for Education from 1996-2002 and has served as Southeast Regional Councillor since 2018.


This workshop will share current and exciting forthcoming innovations of AGO; questions from attendees will be welcomed.

What goes into making a great wine and how does this apply to growing your membership? This inter-active workshop will address the processes of cultivation, harvesting, fermentation, and aging that contribute to making great wine, and how these steps can successfully be applied to developing sustainable membership and supporting leadership development.
